Lorna Fencer Napurrula was a senior artist from Lajamanu, in the central Northern Territory. Since 1986 she developed her own distinctive personal style of vivid colours and swirling designs based on the various bush food and other Dreamings. Caterpillar Dreaming tells the story of women heading into the bush to collect bush tucker. The women would travel all day in large groupssinging and dancing as they collected food to take back to the large families at the campsite. The women quite often come across a caterpillar that they call one. This is because this particular caterpillar constantly bites the women while they are picking fruitmaking them quite itchy. These caterpillars are luminous green in colour with bright eyes. The landscape is portrayed as abundant and full of flowers in bloom.
