The celebrated handsome young Barker whose gleaming 1960s objects seduced legendary art dealers, collectors and popstars alike in Swinging London, has turned eighty in 2018 and still continues to intrigue with fascinating objetcs, which art-historically position him as the heir to Marcel Duchamp and the forerunner of Jeff Koons. A major retrospective of his work was held at the Pop Art collection of the Wolverhampton Art Gallery during 2017-2018. 'Paint Tins' tricks the receiver out of the sense of excitement at discovering the colours inside. The actual state of the inaccessibility of a plain consumer good such as paint comments on Barker's early training as a painter, and shows his adherence to Surrealism, which is well documented in publications on Barker's work.
Clive Barker's work is in museum collections worldwide including: Tate, London; British Museum, London; National Portrait Gallery, London; Staedtische Kunsthalle Mannheim; Museum fuer Modern Kunst, Frankfurt; National Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide; Museu Coleção Berardo, Modern and Contemporary Art Museum, Lisbon; The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia.
