Known for his casts of the iconic Coca Cola bottles during the 1960s, Barker recently turned his attention to the endearing subject of the charming Blue Tit pecking at the silver foil to drink the cream from a milk bottle. The ordinary daily scene of a milk bottle delivered on the doorstep at dawn, at a time when birds are awake whilst humans are still in slumber, is used by Barker to express his nostalgia for the 1960s when he was at the heart of the Pop Art movement. In parallel, Blue Tits pecking at the silver foil tops of milk bottles have become part of British folklore as it is a rare sight nowadays.
The celebrated handsome young Barker whose gleaming 1960s objects seduced legendary art dealers, collectors and pop stars alike, continues to intrigue with fascinating objects, which art-historically position him as the heir to Marcel Duchamp and the forerunner of Jeff Koons.
The work of Clive Barker is in museum collections worldwide including: National Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide; British Museum, London; Tate, London; National Portrait Gallery, London; Museum für moderne Kunst, Frankfurt; Städtische Kunsthalle Mannheim; Museu Coleção Berardo, Lisbon; The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia Museum of Art.
